Brassteroids

Unique interactive sculptures based around a specially developed steel/bronze insert casting process. Molten bronze is poured over an arrangement of steel spheres housed in a custom mold. The resulting ingot then dissected to create an array of fascinating forms, each a different and totally unique piece from the next. Some spheres leave voids behind, while others are captured in the bronze. These voids allow the bronze forms to be stacked on one another with the use of the included steel spheres in an endless variety of arrangements. The metal is smoothed and buffed following sawing, and is left with a live finish to allow the development of a natural patina over time. Each set includes a heavy oil-tanned leather stacking pad to act as a pleasing presentation stage, as well as offering protection to the underlying surface.
